About this office
Lesovo is one of the main road border crossings between Bulgaria and Turkey, on the Thracian Plain in Yambol Province. This customs post operates 24 hours a day, handling transit, departure, destination and full import-export controls for heavy goods traffic.
Frequently asked questions
In September 2024, gold worth EUR 5 million was found hidden in a car's airbag compartment at Lesovo — the largest single gold seizure in Bulgarian border history. That same month, 14,000 packs of contraband cigarettes were intercepted. In July 2025, nearly 30,000 counterfeit items were confiscated.
The reference code is BG001011. The border crossing point (ГКПП Лесово) is on the Yambol–Edirne route and connects with the Turkish Hamzabeyli checkpoint.
Lesovo is on the EU external border (BG-TR), so Bulgaria's full Schengen accession from 1 January 2025 does not change procedures at this border. Customs and passport controls continue unchanged.
The most commonly smuggled items are gold, cigarettes, counterfeit clothing and accessories, and narcotics. The Europe–Bulgaria–Turkey route is used by organised smuggling networks.
